OPGS team beats Huntercombe GC
In its inaugural match against a club side, a ten-person team representing the OP Golf Society defeated a team from Huntercombe GC near Henley by three matches to two on April 11th.
Representing OPs were: P. Smitham & R. Givan (won); C. Llewellyn & N. Beattie (lost); R. Guillaume & J. McBroom (lost); H. Fraser and A. Clifford (won); M. Dumas & R. Knight (won).
After a convivial lunch the format used was a variant on greensome in which all players drove at each hole and the second shot was then hit alternately. It proved to be a most enjoyable encounter despite the gloomy, damp conditions with some excellent contests and reasonable scoring. Considering everything, including one of the wettest and coolest periods in recent memory, the course was in decent condition and the welcome in the clubhouse notably warm and friendly.
Huntercombe GC has not taken its defeat lying down and has already challenged the OPGS to a return 12-a-side match in 2019. This will take place on Wednesday April 10th. Anyone who would like to take part should contact the Match manager, Robin Knight, at firstname.lastname@example.org
